Why is coffee sold in 12 oz. bags?

Green coffee loses 15-20% of its weight during the roasting process, so one pound ends up somewhere between 12.8-13.6 oz. after roasting.

How do I determine which bag size is right for me?

A 12 Oz. bag will get you 22 cups approximately. If you drink 2 cups a day, it will come for 11 days. If you drink 3 cups, it will come for 7 days, well before bean becoming stale.

How long does a 1lb (16 Oz) bag of coffee last?

A pound lasts about two weeks for most people, if you drink around 2 cups per day. If you drink slightly less than that a pound of coffee will last you around 1 month.

What is the lifetime of roasted coffee?

roasted & ground coffee beans last 6-9 months past the shelf-life when sealed. If they've been opened, consume within six months, store in an airtight container.

Why do coffee bags have holes?

They are called valves. They help keep the coffee power/beans fresh by allowing oxygen to passthrough. Prevent spilling during transit. Valves allow Co2 (freshly roasted beans need to degas) to escape.

What makes coffee strong or weak?

A strong coffee is produced by using a higher coffee to water ratio. It refers to the concentration level rather than the roast level. Espresso by definition is a strong coffee.

How long do coffee bags stay fresh?

it's best to use the roasted coffee beans or ground coffee within six weeks after the roast date. Unopened vacuum-sealed bag of coffee may last for up to 3 to 5 months at room temperature.

Is it better to buy roasted coffee in bulk or in small quantity?

It is always better to buy in small quantity (as weekly, bi-weekly or monthly subscriptions) based on your daily consumption & family size.

Should ground coffee be refrigerated?

No way. Fridge is not a place to store coffee in any form.

What is the best way to store opened ground coffee?

In an air tight container, whether it is a mason jar, a bag or a canister.

What are the types of coffee beans?

Arabica : Is the most popular type of coffee. You can drink straight because they have a more sweeter and more complex flavor. It doesn't have as much caffeine as Robusta.

Robusta : Is cheaper and stronger. Typically used for espresso drinks and instant coffees. It has high caffeine content.

What are the Coffee Roast Types ?

Light roast coffee is a light brown color and has no oil on the surface of the beans. They typically have a crisp acidity, a mellow body, and bright flavors.

Medium roast coffee
is a brown color and rarely has an oily surface. They have a medium acidity and body, as well as a rounded flavor profile.

Dark roast coffee
is a dark brown color and often has an oily surface. They have a low acidity, heavy body, and tend to reveal deeper, darker flavors.

What are the types of grind?

Auto-Drip Grind

Is a medium grind for regular and automatic drip coffee machines.

Auto-Drip Fine Grind

Is a finer grind which result in stronger coffee

Classic Drip Grind

Grind that is suitable for brewing coffee that involves hot water being poured over ground coffee beans, which then drips through a filter and into a carafe.

Coarse Grind

The coffee ground with relatively big coffee bean particles. Water might not pull out as much flavor, and the coffee might not be as bitter as it would be with finer grounds. This grind is perfect for making coffee in a French press.

Espresso Grind

It is a very finely ground coffee, similar to powdered sugar size. 

French Press Grind

It is coarse, even grind similar to coarse grind.

Percolator Grind

This coarse coffee grounds is about the size of sea salt. This method uses higher water temperatures than other methods, making it more susceptible to over-extraction, so you want to avoid using fine grinds. 

Turkish Grind

Turkish grind is finer than espresso, it should feel like powder. This extra-fine grind is crucial to the whole Turkish brew method what gives its distinctive body.

Is Turkish grind like instant coffee?

Turkish coffee has a thicker, foamier texture than instant coffee. It is less charred and smoky than instant or brewed coffee and can be sweetened or diluted with milk. It generally has a stronger taste than instant or brewed coffee, but it is less smoky and burnt in flavor.
